Burl Ives was an American actor, writer and folk singer. While predominantly considered a folk artist, Burl recorded over 100 albums that included gospel, country and even calypso influenced pop. While best known as "Big Daddy" from the Academy Award winning film "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" he won his own Oscar for playing an ornery hillbilly in "Big Country." He is also reconized around the world as Sam the Snowman from the animated classic "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer."
Jaymz Bee will share his memories of Burl, including photographs and videos. Tony Quarrington (music director of the night) will lead the musical guests in a stellar set of classic folk and country that made Burl famous. There will also be a Burl Ives Quiz with prizes and anyone with Burl Ives memorabilia is encouraged to bring it along for show and tell.
